    DESCRIPTION AND USES<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Zinsser\u00ae B-I-N\u00ae Shellac-Base Primer is a primer-sealer, stain blocker, and bond coat recommended for use on interior ceilings, walls, doors, trim, cabinets, furniture, and related paintable surfaces. Exterior uses are limited to spot priming only. Use to block water, grease, rust, smoke, asphalt, graffiti, and many other types of stains. <\/p>\n

    INTERIOR<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Apply to new or previously painted surfaces: drywall, cured plaster, wood (pine, fir, cedar, redwood, plywood), metal (aluminum, stainless steel, galvanized metal), vinyl, PVC, fiberglass, and masonry (stucco, concrete block, concrete, and brick). For exterior surfaces, apply to new or previously painted: wood (pine, fir, cedar, redwood, T-111, plywood, pressure-treated wood), hardboard, glass, metal (aluminum, stainless steel, galvanized metal), PVC, rigid plastics, aluminum and vinyl siding, fiberglass, and masonry (stucco, concrete block, concrete, and brick). Blocks stains and odors from water and fire damage, and seals stains from: dark colors, grease, rust, creosote, asphalt, crayon, lipstick, graffiti, markers, knots, sap streaks, tannin bleed, etc. <\/p>\n

    EXTERIOR<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Use B-I-N Shellac-Base Primer to spot prime persistent bleeding knots and sap streaks before priming the entire surface with a water-based or oil-based primer.<\/p>\n

    SEALING<\/strong><\/p>\n

    B-I-N seals unpainted or porous surfaces so topcoat paints have better coverage. B-I-N fills and binds wood fibers to create a smooth, sealed surface that provides “bite” for enamel, requiring fewer coats of paint. Highly porous surfaces may require two coats, which may reduce the square foot coverage of the product. <\/p>\n

    STAIN BLOCKING<\/strong><\/p>\n

    B-I-N is an excellent stain-blocking primer for interior surfaces. One coat effectively blocks stains, including water, nicotine, ink, crayon, marker, rust, and smoke, so they will not bleed through the topcoat. Some stains require a second coat. B-I-N is recommended for permanently sealing heavy fire and water stains and fire-related odors. B-I-N also seals urine and animal odors. It is also recommended for sealing nicotine stains and tobacco odors. <\/p>\n

      WOOD<\/strong><\/p>\n

      Lightly sand bare wood that has been exposed for more than four weeks with 80-100 grit sandpaper to remove loose or weathered wood fibers. For new cedar or redwood, allow B-I-N Shellac-Base Primer to dry for 24 hours before painting or topcoating. Sand interior bare wood surfaces with fine to medium grit sandpaper. <\/p>\n

       <\/p>\n

      RESTRICTIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n

      B-I-N Shellac-Base Primer is not recommended for whole-surface exterior application, floors, decks, or any surface subject to immersion or prolonged contact with water.<\/p>\n

       <\/p>\n

      APPLICATION<\/strong><\/p>\n

      Apply only when air, product, and surface temperatures are between -18 and 32\u00b0C (0 and 90\u00b0F) and relative humidity is below 70%. Do not apply B-I-N if the surface temperature is within 9.5\u00b0C (15\u00b0F) of the dew point. Substrate moisture content should not exceed 12%. <\/p>\n

      Do not thin. Shake or stir well to ensure any settled pigment is re-dispersed before use. In most cases, only one coat is necessary to prime most surfaces. If excessive absorption occurs over very porous substrates, a second coat may be necessary. Spot priming is recommended only under high-hide topcoat paints. For best results, prime the entire surface before painting. Keep container tightly closed when not in use. <\/p>\n

      Apply with a natural or synthetic (nylon, polyester, or blend) bristle brush, roller, or airless sprayer. Follow manufacturer’s directions when using spray equipment. For airless spraying, use a .011″ to .013″ tip at 800 to 1,200 psi. If using conventional spray, spray at 45 to 55 psi.
