V17500 Corotech Rust-Inhibitive Bonding Primer is designed for application on both ferrous and non-ferrous metals. This formula stands out for its ability to bond even to very smooth metals such as aluminum, stainless steel, and galvanized metal (most rust-inhibitive primers cannot achieve long-lasting adhesion on these).<\/p>\n

A surface primed with V17500 Corotech Rust-Inhibitive Bonding Primer must then be painted with an alkyd, acrylic (water-based), epoxy,
\nurethane, or moisture-cure urethane topcoat. You will then achieve excellent resistance to metal corrosion.<\/p>\n

How to apply V17500 Rust-Inhibitive Bonding Primer<\/h2>\n

Surface preparation<\/h3>\n

Preparation may vary depending on the surface. The basic principle is that the surface must be clean, dry, and free of visible rust. Use an emulsifying-type cleaner to remove oil or grease residues. You may also clean with solvent.<\/p>\n

If rust or flaking is present, remove it by sandblasting or grinding the surface. A metal conditioner can also be used to neutralize rust.<\/p>\n

For galvanized metal: <\/strong>Galvanized steel is generally factory-treated to prevent white rust from forming during storage or delivery. These surfaces feel slightly oily to the touch. For proper adhesion, clean galvanized steel with an emulsifier or a suitable solvent before applying V17500 Rust-Inhibitive Bonding Primer.<\/p>\n

For stainless steel: <\/strong>When it leaves the factory, stainless steel has a very smooth surface. Even V17500 Rust-Inhibitive Bonding Primer may sometimes have difficulty adhering to it. It is therefore recommended to perform a preliminary test on a small area before coating the entire surface.<\/p>\n

How to apply<\/h3>\n

First, mix the container thoroughly. If possible, use a mechanical agitator. Thinning is not recommended, but if absolutely necessary, follow a ratio of 237 mL of water per 3.79 L (1 gallon) of primer. Apply V17500 Rust-Inhibitive Bonding Primer at temperatures between 10 and 32\u00b0C and when relative humidity is below 85%.<\/p>\n

Here are the recommended application methods.<\/p>\n

Airless spray: <\/strong>Tip size should range between 0.013 and 0.017. Total fluid pressure at the tip must not be less than 2,500 psi.<\/p>\n

Spray (pressure pot): <\/b>: DeVilbiss MBC or JGA gun, with 704 or 765 air cap and E tip.<\/p>\n

Brush: <\/strong>Synthetic bristles only. As a general rule, wet film thickness by brush is 2 to 3 mils.<\/p>\n

Roller: <\/strong>Use a premium-quality roller. As a general rule, film thickness by roller is 2 to 3 mils.<\/p>\n

Application conditions<\/h4>\n

Apply when temperature is between 10\u00b0C and 32.2\u00b0C (50\u00b0F\u201390\u00b0F) and relative humidity is below 85%. Do not apply if the surface temperature is within 5 degrees of the dew point.<\/p>\n
