Preparation

• The wood surface must be clean, dry, and frost-free (max. moisture content 18%).
• Thoroughly clean old microporous stains.
• Old paints and lacquers must be completely removed by carefully sanding the wood surfaces, starting with coarse-grit sandpaper.
• Fill small cracks, larger joints, or holes in the wood.
• For the final sanding of wood floors, use 100-150 grit (orbital machine) and for furniture use 120 grit (machine) or 220 grit (hand).
• Before oiling the surface, remove sanding dust with a broom or vacuum cleaner.

The final appearance depends notably on the natural characteristics of the wood. Therefore, a trial is always necessary, especially for unfamiliar surfaces.

Application

Either a single coat can be applied for a semi-transparent effect or two coats for a more intense shade.

Osmo Oil Stain is ready to use; do not thin and stir well before use.

In all cases, we recommend applying a final protective coat of Clear Osmo Polyx-Oil.

Transparent Shade (1 coat)

For a wood floor:

1- For cutting in, pour the Osmo Oil Stain into a small tray and reseal the airtight container. Using the white Super pad on the Osmo applicator, apply a thin, even coat to the clean, dry wood, following the grain, to do the corners or wall edges.

2- Rub the oil in well with the applicator to ensure it penetrates the surface for a good 6 to 8-inch wide cut-in from the wall. Ensure no excess oil or polishing marks remain on the surface.

3- Stain the entire floor afterwards, pouring a little stain directly onto the floor to then spread and distribute it well across the surface.

4- Apply the oil stain in a thin and even coat to the surface using a non-abrasive white pad and a single-disc orbital electric polisher.

This step can also be performed using a floor brush, microfiber roller, or Osmo double-blade scraper, then spreading the product with a single-disc machine and a white pad.

5- Ensure no excess oil or polisher marks remain on the surface. If swirl marks appear, there is too much oil in the pad. Spread the oil stain over a larger area until the marks stop appearing. Wait until they have completely faded before adding more product to the floor.

Errors can be corrected within 20 minutes of application.

6- Allow to dry for approximately 12 hours ensuring the space is well ventilated.

Intense Shade (2 coats)

For a darker color, apply a thin, even coat to the clean, dry wood, following the grain, using the Osmo microfiber roller or the 150 mm Osmo floor brush.

Spread the product well following the same steps as for the first coat.

Tips:

With a new microfiber roller, brush marks disappear within 30 minutes of application. Ensure good ventilation during drying.

For a more intense coloration, apply a second coat with the Osmo double-blade scraper, Osmo microfiber roller, or 150 mm Osmo floor brush, massaging the wood with a white pad.

For small surfaces:

(Such as furniture) Osmo Oil Stain can be applied with a lint-free cloth like the Osmo Easy Pad.

Essential protection:

After complete drying (12-24h), a top coat of Clear Osmo Polyx-Oil must be applied. Consult the product page for the proper procedure.

Restrictions

Shade 3501 White:

Due to its fragility, we do not recommend an opaque white surface for floors. As a top coat, we recommend applying a pigmented Polyx-Oil 3040 or 3240 (White Transparent).

Shade 3519 Natural:

For this shade, we recommend applying a very thin coat using the floor brush or microfiber roller. Then, after drying, apply Clear Osmo Polyx-Oil as a top coat. The wood surface retains its natural appearance: no permanent wet look. On red/dark wood species, the finish leaves a white haze.

For tropical, dense, or oily woods (e.g., wenge, merbau, jatoba, etc.), we recommend using Polyx-Oil 2K Pure or Wood Wax Finish Extra Thin. Prior testing is recommended.

Caution: Only dispose of cloths when they are completely dry due to the risk of spontaneous combustion. Materials used with this product, such as cloths, may spontaneously ignite. After use, place cloths in water or dry them flat, then dispose of them.
