Description
STEINA Transparent oil-based Wood Stain
Product description
Are you looking for a wood stain that offers natural beauty, durability, and ease of application? STEINA transparent oil stain, formerly known as Ready Seal, is designed for homeowners like Daniel, who want to do things themselves without compromising on quality. This 2-in-1 product stains and seals in a single step, with just one coat. Yes, it is a single-coat stain, which significantly reduces working time and the risk of error.
Unlike traditional stains that require tedious touch-ups or multiple successive coats, STEINA penetrates wood deeply and applies evenly, without leaving marks or overloaded areas, even when using a sprayer. No more “back brushing” needed – it works like a charm and provides a flawless finish from the first application. The result is natural, slightly satin, and highlights the unique grain of each piece of wood.
This stain is perfect for exterior projects such as decks, fences, siding, and garden furniture. Apply it to dry wood in dry weather, and it will do the rest: protection against water, resistance to UV rays, and durability season after season. Thanks to its oil-based formula, it nourishes and seals the wood deeply, while remaining easy to maintain over the years.
By choosing STEINA wood stain, you avoid the complications of multi-coat products. You save time, reduce errors, and achieve a professional result. It is the ideal solution for discerning homeowners who want protected, beautiful, and worry-free exterior wood. A simple, effective, single-coat, and durable product – just the way we like them.

How to apply
Wood Preparation
To allow Steina penetrating oil to perform at its maximum capacity on wood, it is essential to properly prepare the surface. The surface must be clean and completely dry.
Cleaning:
- Remove mold, dust, dirt, oils, and greases with Passeport Elite Deck Cleaner.
- Before starting cleaning, protect plants with protective tarps. Although Deck Cleaner is biodegradable, it can be abrasive to plants.
- Apply the cleaner generously to the surface using a roller, sprayer, or brush. If cleaning a vertical surface, always clean from bottom to top.
- Allow the product to act for 5 to 10 minutes. It is important not to let the product dry on the surface. Otherwise, you will have to clean again.
- Once this time has elapsed, rinse with clear water to remove the cleaner.
- Allow to dry completely before proceeding to the next steps.
Note: For very dirty surfaces, it is best to apply the cleaner twice.
Sanding:
Sanding is the step that allows Steina oil to perform uniformly on wood boards. Although, according to the manufacturer, sanding is not mandatory before applying Steina, we still recommend it to our customers based on experience, especially on wood patio floor surfaces.
- Previous stains and sealers must be completely removed. You can use a stripper to remove particularly stubborn finishes.
- The wood must have a moisture content of 12% or less.
- Sand the surface using 80 or 100 grit abrasive sandpaper.
- Always sand in the direction of the wood grain.
- Change sandpaper every 10 to 25 sq ft.
- Once sanding is complete, remove sanding dust by sweeping or with a shop vacuum. Preferably do not rinse.
Note: It is important to apply Steina within days of sanding. Otherwise, the wood pores will close.
Apply Steina
Steina is an easy-to-apply penetrating oil. You can apply either one thick coat or two thin coats, wet on wet, with a 45-minute interval between coats.
- Apply Steina with a stain brush, sprayer, or roller.
- First, perform a test on a small area to ensure the color is suitable for you.
- Apply a uniform coat of Steina oil.
- If you wish to apply a second coat, allow approximately 45 minutes to dry before applying it.
- Immediately clean application accessories and tools with a solvent such as citrus solvent.
- Once the application is complete, allow to dry for 48 to 72 hours.
Note: Drying time may vary depending on temperature, wood porosity, and humidity. Also, Steina exterior stain will achieve its final color after 7 to 10 days.
