Description:
Sansin ENS is a durable two-coat finish that can be applied to almost any exterior surface such as doors and windows, architectural millwork, siding, and outdoor furniture. It even enhances the effectiveness of other coatings. Self-priming, it adheres incredibly well to almost all surfaces, providing an exceptionally beautiful satin or semi-gloss finish. Highly wear-resistant, ENS does not fade over time and offers one of the most powerful UV protections available. Whatever your project, the extraordinary characteristics of ENS, whether in natural, translucent, or opaque finishes, make it an essential choice for aesthetics and durability. ENS is one of the few products that can adhere to Sikkens brand stains.

On bare wood or wood covered with other coatings
For bare wood, it is recommended to apply a first coat of penetrating stain such as Sansin Classic or Sansin SDF in the desired color. After drying, apply 2 coats of ENS tinted with the same color or diluted shade. Due to its unparalleled adhesion, Sansin ENS can also be applied over a multitude of water-based or oil-based coatings found on the market (such as Cetol 1 and Cetol 23 from Sikkens).
Sansin ENS Application Procedures
- Be sure to mix the tinted product thoroughly before and during application
- Application can be done with a brush or by spraying with an HVLP gun
- Do not overwork Sansin ENS due to its fast drying time: once applied, allow it to settle
- Do not apply during the hottest part of the day or in direct sunlight (if the wood is hot to the touch)
- Do not apply in rainy weather and/or during cold nights; the product requires 24 hours of drying under good conditions after application
- Read the manufacturer’s complete usage instructions before starting the project
Maintenance of Surfaces with Sansin ENS
Vertical surfaces usually require maintenance every 3-6 years. Maintenance is necessary when the surface shows signs of wear, such as discoloration or erosion. Weather exposure, application conditions, and color choice will affect the coating’s performance. Regular wood maintenance will help it retain its color long-term, maintain better dimensional stability, and preserve its water-repellent properties. Periodically, wash your wood with Sansin Multi-wash biodegradable cleaner to remove dust and dirt. The frequency of maintenance will depend on the quality of preparation, application, and application conditions.
When it is time for maintenance, thoroughly clean the surfaces with Sansin Multi-wash biodegradable cleaner to remove contaminants, dirt, and mold. Then, reapply a maintenance coat of Sansin ENS following the application instructions. For maximum performance of maintenance coats, choose ENS Optimum Clear, a powerful and exceptionally clear UV-resistant topcoat that can be applied over almost any coating.
