Description
Polyurethane oil-based varnish
Description
Old Masters® Interior Oil-Based Polyurethane is a clear finish designed to protect the beauty of interior wood, metal, and fiberglass surfaces. Easy to apply and fast-drying, this polyurethane provides durable, resistant protection against abrasion, impacts, tearing, alcohol, and water.
Ideal for use on interior wood surfaces such as floors, countertops, bars, tabletops, cabinets, trim, and doors.
Old Masters oil-based polyurethane varnish can also be applied to primed or bare metal parts such as exposed beams, metal wall plates, or a central stringer on a freestanding staircase.
Old Masters oil-based polyurethane varnish is also perfectly suited for finishing interior fiberglass doors and windows previously stained with Old Masters gel stain.
SURFACE PREPARATION:
All surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of dirt, wax, grease, glue, and other contaminants, otherwise penetration and adhesion will be affected. DO NOT apply over sealers containing stearates.
Bare wood: Sand the surface thoroughly with medium-grit sandpaper, then move to fine-grit sandpaper. Always sand with the grain. Remove dust with a tack cloth.
Previously varnished surfaces: The surface must be sanded to remove imperfections and gloss, using extra-fine sandpaper (220 grit), sanding with the grain. Remove dust with a cloth.
Stained surfaces: The stain must be completely dry before applying Old Masters oil-based polyurethane clear finish. Sanding an unprotected stained surface is not recommended, as the color may tend to wear off and disappear.

450 g/L
How to apply
Stir well with a stir stick before and during application. DO NOT SHAKE THE CONTAINER: this may cause bubbles. For larger projects requiring multiple cans, combine the containers and mix to ensure uniform sheen. Test the finish on an inconspicuous area before starting the entire project to ensure proper adhesion and the desired appearance. Do not apply in direct sunlight or in areas with extreme air movement.
- Apply with a high-quality brush (natural bristle or soft synthetic), a flat pad, or spray. A lambswool applicator may be used for large flat surfaces.
- Apply in even coats with the grain. Maintain a wet edge to avoid lap marks. Avoid unnecessary brushing over areas already finished to allow the varnish to level properly without brush marks. Keep the area dust-free.
- The polyurethane typically dries to the touch in 3 hours. Under ideal drying conditions, wait 6 hours before applying the next coat. Overnight drying is also fine.
- Lightly sand between coats with fine sandpaper (220 grit) for a smoother finish and better intercoat adhesion. If the sandpaper gums up, allow more drying time. Remove sanding dust.
- Apply another coat. A minimum of two coats is recommended. However, for high-traffic surfaces or heavy-wear conditions, additional coats may be applied.
THINNING:
Do not thin. Use as is.
COVERAGE:
Approx. 400 to 500 sq ft per gallon. Coverage will vary considerably depending on application method and the condition of the wood.
DRY TIME:
Apply when air and surface temperatures are between 15 and 25°C and humidity is between 30% and 70%. At 50% relative humidity and 20°C (70°F), the interior oil-based polyurethane will dry to the touch in 3 hours. Under ideal drying conditions, wait 6 hours before recoating. Overnight drying is recommended. Dry time will depend on temperature, humidity, and film thickness. Protect from freezing before and during application.
Wait 24 hours before subjecting surfaces to light use. Care should be taken during the first week after application as the finish cures to its ultimate hardness. For floor applications, avoid clutter and moving furniture back for 72 hours after the last coat. When replacing furniture, do not slide it; set it down instead. Do not install rugs or clean floors for 7 days.
CLEANUP: The use of a cleaning solvent, such as paint thinner or mineral spirits, is recommended for cleanup.
To prevent spontaneous combustion during temporary storage, immediately after use immerse soiled rags and waste in a closed metal container filled with water.

Je l’ai utilisé sur de l’acier usagé que j’ai préalablement nettoyé et dégraissé avec du varsol. 3 couches avec l’aérosol : superbe résultat. Je le recommande fortement.
