Description:
Passeport Elite concrete floor and countertop finish is specially formulated to protect, seal, and waterproof any interior bare concrete surface. This clear, satin, non-yellowing finish offers exceptional resistance. It enhances the natural beauty of concrete for a chic, modern decor. Water-based polyurethane for interior use only, on bare concrete (new or old).
Tips for bare concrete:
Detect potentially incompatible sealers:
Perform a water absorption test to check surface porosity and see if an incompatible sealer is present.
Place a small amount of water (a few drops) on the concrete surface. If the water is absorbed quickly, no sealer is present—you are good to go!
If the water beads for a long time (more than 2 to 4 minutes), the concrete has been sealed. Sanding the surface is required as a precaution.
Apply a compatible Passeport Elite sealer for the first coat:
For an easy application and optimal performance of the Concrete Finish on floors, Passeport Elite recommends applying a first coat of Passeport Elite Water-Based Acrylic Concrete Sealer as a primer.
This penetrates porous concrete, allowing more time for the first coat application and promoting a better bond with raw concrete.
How to apply
PREPARATION: The surface must be clean, dry, stable, and free of efflorescence, dust, oil, paint, sealer, salt, or any other contaminant that could affect product adhesion and performance. Prepare the surface using a diamond finishing grinder or 120-grit sandpaper (DO NOT use steel wool), then remove dust very thoroughly. Two successive vacuumings with a shop vac are recommended.
Perform a preliminary test on a section by reproducing actual application conditions and methods to verify adhesion, product compatibility, color, and final gloss.
APPLICATION CONDITIONS: Temperature between 21 and 25°C. Relative humidity between 35 and 50%.
HOW TO APPLY:
Plan for a total of 3 to 4 coats depending on the texture, grain size, and porosity of the concrete.
For floors, if Passeport Elite Water-Based Acrylic Concrete Sealer was used as the 1st coat, plan for 2 to 3 coats of Concrete Finish.
NOTE: Turn off all ventilation in the room. If ventilation cannot be turned off, block all vents to minimize air movement.
1. Use a 15 cm (6 in) rectangular applicator or a brush, soak it, and apply the product to the perimeter of the floor.
2. Pour the product (Sealer and/or Concrete Finish) directly onto the floor in a strip of about 10 cm (4 in) along the starting wall.
3. Soak the applicator and spread the strip in a “S” motion to pull excess product toward you. Overlap the covered section by 15 cm (6 in).
4. Near the perpendicular wall, do not lift the applicator but continue the motion in the opposite direction (180°) for a distance of about 30 cm (12 in).
NOTE: To prevent application marks, DO NOT apply pressure to the applicator and smooth out marks and lines as you go using a lifting motion. DO NOT apply too thin a coat (refer to the “Coverage” section of the technical data in this document).
5. Continue across the entire surface.
6. About 76 cm (30 in) from the far wall, turn 90° and apply the product in the opposite direction, pulling toward you. Move toward the room entrance.
7. Using the applicator, remove excess product and finish the application by smoothing out marks and lines.
8. Allow 2 to 3 hours of drying time between coats (may vary depending on ambient conditions). Do not wait 24 hours or more between coats.
9. Sand between coats using 180-grit sandpaper.
10. Remove dust using a vacuum or damp towels.
NOTE: Sanding before the final coat is not necessary if the time between the last two applications does not exceed 3 hours.
11. Clean tools with water.
CAUTION: Do not place items with extreme heat on the finish.
DRYING AND CURING TIME
The curing process takes approximately 7 days (100% cured after 7 days, 90% after 48 to 72 hours, and 75% after 24 hours). To optimize product performance, it is important to wait for full curing before the first wet cleaning.
Light traffic is permitted after 4 hours of drying time. Wait 7 days before replacing rugs and area carpets. Traffic is possible after 24 hours; however, the floor may scratch. The curing process must be respected (refer to the “Technical Data” section of this document).
NOTE: Drying and curing times mentioned in this document may vary according to application conditions: lower temperatures, higher humidity, or a thicker layer of product on the surface could slow down the drying and curing processes.
Note: Do not cover with tarps, cardboard, or other materials before the product is fully cured (10 days).
MAINTENANCE AND PREVENTION
Wait 10 days before the first wet cleaning.
Finitec floor cleaner is very suitable for cleaning this concrete coating.
Use protective felt pads under furniture to prevent scratches. Do not slide or drag furniture across the floor. Vacuum or sweep regularly.
