Description:

Does your wood deck become slippery after rain, around the pool, and sometimes during winter? Osmo Anti-Slip Deck Oil – 430 offers a durable, natural, and safe solution to protect your outdoor surfaces while preserving the beauty of the wood.

This clear anti-slip finish, formulated with natural oils, beautifully complements Osmo Colored Deck Oil. Please note that Osmo Anti-Slip Deck Oil, containing no pigmentation, does not protect against the sun’s UV rays (graying) and should not be used alone. However, it is a fabulous addition to your project to enhance existing Osmo colored protection and extend its durability.

Osmo Anti-Slip Deck Oil – 430 creates an anti-slip satin surface thanks to a uniformly distributed high-density organic additive. It effectively protects against mold, algae, and fungi, which are frequent enemies of wood in our humid and variable climate.

Unlike stains and paints that flake, Osmo Anti-Slip Deck Oil – 430 remains flexible, microporous (allows wood to breathe), and easy to maintain. When applied under the right conditions, it does not crack, blister, and allows for localized touch-ups without complete surface sanding. The result: a safer, more durable, and simpler-to-maintain deck year after year.

Features

  • Prevents mold, algae, and fungi
  • Increased safety thanks to its highly concentrated organic anti-slip additive
  • Finishing coat with an extremely water and dirt-resistant satin finish
  • Accepts wood moisture content up to 20%
  • Microporous: reduces wood swelling and shrinking
  • Use only on wood already treated with Osmo pigmented Deck Oil

Clear only
- A first coat of pigmented oil, such as Osmo Colored Deck Oil, must be applied. Osmo Anti-Slip Deck Oil, not being pigmented, does not protect against the sun's UV rays (graying). Therefore, it is not suitable as a single coat on wood.

Preparation

The wood surface must be clean and washed with Osmo Wood Deck Cleaner Concentrate.

The wood must be dry (20% moisture) and the weather adequate and frost-free (at an ideal normal climate of 23°C/ 50% relative humidity)

If the wood is already gray from weathering, clean and de-gray at the same time using Osmo Wood Reviver Gel.

If the surface has turned gray due to lack of oil maintenance, use the same process and then reapply.

Osmo Anti-Slip Deck Oil – 430 is ready to use, so do not dilute it.

Sand off old layers of existing paint and stains from other brands on the surface. Wear a protective mask when sanding.

Osmo states that sanding new wood is not necessary. However, to remove certain defects from the wood surface or to equalize uneven porosity before applying Osmo Colored Deck Oil, the use of 100-grit sandpaper on a five-inch orbital sander is recommended.

How to apply

  • Mix well before use: the anti-slip additive must be uniformly distributed.
  • Always apply a first coat of Osmo pigmented Wood Deck Oil: it protects against UV rays and extends the lifespan of the wood. (Anti-Slip Deck Oil is not suitable as a single coat on bare wood).
  • If possible, apply this first coat to all sides of the deck boards before installation.
  • Apply a thin coat of Osmo Clear Anti-Slip Deck Oil in the direction of the wood grain and spread it carefully so that the entire surface is coated.
  • Use the Osmo 150 mm brush for uniform application on large surfaces.
  • Never apply a thick coat: a thin coat maximizes adhesion and drying.
  • Touch up locally the most trafficked areas (stairs, walkways).
  • Allow to dry for approximately 12 hours ensuring good ventilation.

TIPS

It is possible, in due course, to touch up the most used and worn areas (partial renovation possible) to prevent wood graying and weakening of the anti-slip effect. It is also possible to reapply colored deck oil over the anti-slip oil to refresh it in a few years.

Some wood species containing colored extracts tend to wash out when exposed to weathering.

It is advisable to always perform an application test, particularly on coatings for unknown wood species.

The finish result depends, among other factors, on the characteristics of the wood.

At lower temperatures and/or higher air humidity, the drying time is extended.

TOOL CLEANING: With Osmo Brush Cleaner and Thinner (odorless)

CAUTION – IMPORTANT

Use only in a well-ventilated area. Keep away from flames and sparks. Materials used with this product, such as rags, can spontaneously ignite. After use, place rags in water or dry them flat, then dispose of them.

Q1- Is the oil really anti-slip?

Yes. The high-density organic additive creates a discreet but effective texture that significantly reduces the risk of slipping.

Q2- Do I need to apply a pigmented oil first?

Yes, it is highly recommended. The anti-slip oil is clear and does not protect against UV rays, which will cause the wood to gray.

It is possible to reapply Osmo colored deck oil over the anti-slip oil to refresh it in a few years.

Q3- Can it be used alone?

No. It must be applied as a final coat on a surface already oiled with Osmo colored Deck Oil.

Q4- How long does the protection last?

Depending on exposure, 1 to 2 years. Heavily trafficked areas can be touched up as needed.

Q5- Is it compatible with all wood species?

Yes, cedar, hemlock, pine, treated spruce, or exotic wood, as long as the wood is clean, dry (max. 20% moisture), and already treated with Osmo pigmented Deck Oil.

Q6- Does the oil change the color of the wood?

Even if it is clear, it slightly intensifies the natural shade (wet effect) of the already applied color.

Q7- Can it be applied with a roller?

The Osmo brush is the best application method. It is recommended for optimal distribution of the anti-slip additive.
