Description
2-Component Water-Based Industrial Polyurethane 5:1
Product description
Description:
Water-based polyurethane is a 2-component coating system for interior concrete floors.
It is specially designed to protect and enhance the appearance of various types of surfaces, and to provide your choice of a gloss finish (90%), satin (35%) or matte (13%). It achieves good adhesion to concrete and different types of polymer materials, while providing excellent abrasion resistance. This system complies with Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) standards.
Available in gallon format and clear only.
The mix ratio for this product is 5A:1B by volume.
Features
- Low VOC: <10 g/L.
- Fast drying: 4–6 hours between coats.
- Long pot life: 1–3 hours (at 25°C).
- Interior application only*.
- Good chemical resistance.
- Excellent UV resistance.
- Gloss, satin, and matte finishes.
Dry time:
- Recoat time: 4–6 hours
- -Foot traffic: 12–24 hours
- -Normal traffic: 24–48 hours
- -Heavy equipment traffic>72 hours
Use and recommendations
For concrete floors in grocery stores and big-box retailers.
Hospitals, healthcare facilities, offices, and government buildings.
Schools and commercial industrial buildings. Use on floors only, as the product will tend to run on vertical surfaces.
*This water-based polyurethane is not suitable for use outdoors on its own.
This is because the product will react with moisture from the slab and trap moisture during drying (a whitening effect in the product). With incomplete curing that never reaches full cure, the product may therefore remain soft.
If a matte finish is desired for outdoor use with this type of product, the distributor recommends starting by applying a coat of high-solids polyaspartic . Then, a coat of water-based polyurethane in a matte finish may be applied.
How to apply
How to apply
Preparation
Before application, surfaces must be thoroughly cleaned. For this, Krud Kutter cleaner is recommended.
Remove dust, dirt, existing paint films, efflorescence, laitance, grease, rust, biological residues, and any other contaminants from the surface. For smooth concrete, mechanically profile using appropriate methods, such as a power sander or grinder, to create good adhesion.
Mixing
Wear safety glasses and chemical-resistant gloves. A NIOSH/MSHA-approved respirator with organic vapor cartridges is recommended. Work in a well-ventilated area.
-Materials must be preconditioned to a minimum of 10°C (59°F) before use.
-Thoroughly mix each component separately using a paddle mixer and drill for at least 2 minutes to evenly suspend the solids content.
-Pour component B into component A using the proper mix ratio of 5A:1B by volume.
-Mix both components for at least 3 minutes using a low-speed drill (300 to 450 rpm) to reduce the risk of air entrapment in the mix.
-During mixing, scrape the bottom and sides of the container at least once to ensure a uniform mix.
-Prepare only the quantity that can be applied within the pot life of the mix. (You have 1 to 3 hours to use it once both components are mixed.)
How to apply
Apply the mixed product in a thin coat over the previously prepared surface using a rubber squeegee, then roll with a 10 mm nap roller to achieve an even coating.
Avoid creating puddles of product. Recoat time between the 2 coats is 4–6 hours. If this time is exceeded between coats, scuff-sand the surface with 60-grit.
Once the work is complete, allow 12 to 24 hours before regular foot traffic.
Restrictions
– Minimum/maximum substrate temperature: 15°C / 30°C (59°F / 86°F).
– Maximum relative humidity during application and curing: 80%.
– Substrate moisture content must be< 4% when applying the coating.
-Do not apply to porous surfaces where moisture transfer may occur during application. (Example: outdoor concrete porch)
-Outdoor use on at-grade substrates should be avoided.
-Must be protected from condensation and contact with water during the initial 24-hour curing period.
-The surface may discolor in areas exposed to UV rays.
Shelf life: 12 months in original, factory-sealed, unopened containers. Keep away from extreme cold, heat, or humidity.
Keep out of direct sunlight.
Cleaning
Clean all tools and materials with soapy water followed by a solvent rinse. Wash hands and skin thoroughly with warm, soapy water. Once the product has cured, it can only be removed by mechanical means.
Important: Components A and B contain toxic ingredients.
Prolonged contact of this product with skin may cause irritation.
