Description:

Sansin Classic stain is the ideal coating for log homes and structures built with large timber. Easy to apply, it will preserve the charm of your wood for decades. Not only does this three-coat matte penetrating formula enhance the natural beauty of the wood, but it also allows it to breathe.

  • Water-repellent and UV-protective coating
  • High-performance, eco-friendly water-based hybrid technology (low VOC)
  • Deeply penetrating coating, even on wet wood (moisture content over 25%)
  • Does not form a film prone to peeling or cracking
  • Molecular compatibility creates a monolithic bond with the wood for long-lasting protection (fuses with the wood)
  • Deep protection ensures dimensional stability and integral protection
  • Dimensional stability reduces warping and shrinkage
  • Allows wood to “breathe”, coat after coat
  • Three-coat system
  • Wide selection of colors achieved through finely ground translucent iron oxide pigments providing exceptional clarity and protection
  • Dry to the touch: approx. 6 to 8 hours
  • Between coats: 24 hours
  • Covers approximately 100 to 200 sq. ft./gallon
  • Available in quart (946 ml), gallon (3.78 liters), and 5 gallons (18.9 liters)

Log Homes:

Log homes need much more than simple protection from sun and rain. Due to its shape, log wood requires a coating that allows it to “breathe” freely to prevent moisture from becoming trapped and rotting the wood from the inside. Since it uses water as a vehicle to deeply impregnate the wood with modified natural oils, Sansin Classic is suitable even for wood with high moisture content, which is particularly useful for log homes where moisture often exceeds 25%. In comparison, most water-based and solvent-based coatings can only be applied to surfaces with a moisture content of 18% or less. Once applied, they risk trapping moisture even deeper within the wood.

Other Vertical Wood Surfaces:

Sansin Classic is equally effective on other vertical surfaces such as shingles, shakes, siding, and fences. Regardless of the application, your wood will be durably protected by a water-repellent and anti-UV shield with a striking finish. Sansin Classic can also serve as a penetrating base coat for ENS products to reinforce the structure’s protection against moisture.

Drying time:

  • Dry to the touch in 6 to 8h
  • 24h between coats

Pro tips:

  • To speed up the application of Classic on large surfaces, the stain can be sprayed onto the wood. To do this, use a garden sprayer or a spray gun (low pressure or airless). Then, back-brush in the direction of the wood grain to ensure optimal penetration of the stain.

How to apply

Easy application:
Sansin Classic 2 is easy to apply: simply saturate the surface by applying a generous coat (by brush, spray, or dip) and check to remove any runs with a brush. Then allow to penetrate and apply a second coat in the same manner after at least 24 hours of drying. For complete protection, apply a coat of Classic 3. Tool cleanup is done with soap and water.

Simple Maintenance:
The Sansin Classic system is just as easy to maintain. After cleaning with Sansin Multi-Wash biodegradable cleaner, simply apply a maintenance coat of Sansin Classic Natural Topcoat or Classic 3 in the color of your choice to protect the wood and maintain a perfect finish. Maintenance should be performed every 4 to 6 years, though this may vary depending on preparation quality and exposure levels. Regular maintenance ensures better color retention.
