Description:

Do you wish to preserve the natural color of a vertical wood structure as much as possible, while protecting it from the sun’s rays?

Exterior wood protectors are typically heavily pigmented to create a good sun filter. Unfortunately, this can mask the grain and natural beauty of your wood.

Good news: It is now possible to maintain the natural look of wood with Osmo UV Protective Oil!

As a topcoat on already stained wood, Osmo UV Protective Oil Extra Clear 420 significantly extends the renovation interval. When used as a sole finish, the tinted version (424 to 432) requires two coats to delay aging and prevent graying. It offers vertical surfaces such as doors, fences, pergolas, and privacy screens a UV protection factor of 12 compared to untreated wood.

Osmo UV Protective Oil should only be used outdoors as it contains biocides to prevent the growth of algae, mold, and fungi. It creates a water-repellent surface while remaining microporous, reducing swelling or shrinking.

Furthermore, since it is made from natural oils, this wood protection is an environmentally conscious choice.

If the surface is heavily exposed to the sun, do not wait for your wood to become stripped of protection or dull. This Osmo UV Protective Oil is so easy to use! Simply apply a new coat without even needing to sand your wood!

Available colors

* Displayed colors may vary depending on the screen, wood grain, texture, porosity, as well as the preparation and application method. The finish and color result depend, among other factors, on the characteristics of the wood. It is therefore advisable to always perform a test, especially on coatings with unknown wood surfaces.

Preparation

The wood surface must be clean and dry. Use Osmo Wood Deck Cleaner.

The weather must be free of rain or frost risk (above 5°C), ideally around 23°C.

If the surface has already grayed, use Osmo Wood Reviver Gel, then 2 coats of Osmo UV Protective Oil.

Old paints and stains must be completely removed.

Do not sand surfaces with paper finer than P120. (Ideally, use 80 or 100 grit.)

The finish and color result depend, among other factors, on the characteristics of the wood. It is therefore advisable to always perform a test, especially on coatings with unknown wood surfaces.

IMPORTANT:

New wood, rich in natural oils, and particularly hard woods must first be weathered for approximately 6 weeks between installation and the first application. This makes the wood more absorbent, and the oil-based finish adheres perfectly. For the same reason, the wood must contain a maximum of 20% moisture. This product is not recommended for horizontal surfaces.

How to apply

  1. Osmo UV Protective Oil is ready to use. It should not be diluted, as this would reduce the protection it offers.
  2. Stir well, and if possible, treat all sides of the wood before installation.
  3. Apply a thin coat of UV Protective Oil following the wood grain using a natural bristle brush or an Osmo Microfiber Roller.
  4. Allow the oil to dry with good ventilation for at least 12 hours before recoating. (Drying time will be longer if the temperature is lower and/or humidity is higher.)
  5. Apply a second coat as described above.
  6. For maintenance, before the wood grays, reapply a coat of Osmo Tinted UV Protective Oil every 3 or 4 years at most if the surface is not heavily exposed to the sun. Refresh the oil at shorter renovation intervals on surfaces heavily exposed to weathering and UV rays when this oil is used alone.

Note: The dry surface appears more lustrous at first and then becomes satin.

It is important to apply 2 coats of UV Protective Oil to achieve a UV protection factor of 12. A single application on untreated wood significantly reduces the durability of the treatment.

UV Protective Oil should not be applied as the sole finish on decks. However, it can be applied as a complement over a first coat of Osmo pigmented deck oil.
