Description:
Tung oil is a traditional finish for wood finishing, used in cabinetmaking for several centuries. Circa 1850 tung oil penetrates deeply into the wood pores to support and strengthen wood fibers. It provides a deep appearance and soft luster to your furniture or other wood surfaces. Tung oil also protects wood against drying out by moisturizing its pores, and protects treated surfaces against water splashes and moisture.
Circa 1850 tung oil is ideal for projects where you want to enhance the color and character of wood, such as decorative boxes, side tables, buffets, shelves, butcher blocks, etc.
How to apply tung oil
The surface must be properly prepared before applying Circa 1850 tung oil. For old or worn furniture, remove the old finish and dirt using Circa 1850 furniture cleaner.
Once the surface is clean and dry, apply the tung oil to the surface using a lint-free cloth or a cotton wick. Allow the oil to penetrate for at least 10 min, then wipe off excess oil with a clean cloth. If small puddles appear after you have wiped off the excess oil, wait another 10 min and wipe again, until there are no more puddles.
Allow to dry for 24h. If you want to maximize the smoothness of the finish, sand with steel wool or super fine polishing pad (0000).
Apply a 2nd coat using the same procedure as for the 1st coat.
For a more lustrous finish, you can apply a 3rd and 4th coat, always allowing 24h drying time between coats.
