Description
Preparation:
On concrete: The concrete must be clean, dry and free of any traces of grease, oil, paint, curing agent or any contaminant that could affect product adhesion. If applying to new concrete, a curing time of at least 28 days is required before applying the product.
Resurfacing using a mechanical concrete grinder remains the best preparation. However, you can prepare the surface with sanding for most residential projects. Sand the surface using a sander equipped with 60-grit paper. You must completely remove all paint layers.
On old epoxy: If the product is applied over an epoxy system already installed for more than 24 hours, the surface must first be sanded with 60-grit abrasive, and properly cleaned using a vacuum before application. This preparation is necessary to ensure adequate adhesion. Perform appropriate adhesion tests if there is any doubt about surface preparation.
On wood: Ensure the wood is clean, dry and sanded. It is important to pre-seal more porous surfaces such as bark edges and cavities with epoxy, as they may release air and cause bubbles.
Mixing:
Before proceeding with the final mix, it is recommended to thoroughly mix parts A and B of the product individually at low speed. Particular attention should be paid to colored versions of the product as pigments may have separated from the rest of the formulation during storage. Mixing must be completed until a uniform color is obtained.
Then, mix the two containers of part A with the container of part B using a mixer attached to a drill at low speed (300-450 rpm) in a clean container. Make sure to use clean equipment to avoid contaminating the product. Mix slowly and thoroughly for three minutes to minimize air entrapment in the product. Make sure to scrape the sides down to the bottom of the mixing container. For small projects, make sure to mix only the required amount of product.
Once the product is mixed, you have 45 minutes of working time.
How to apply:
Before applying CRYSTALOPOXY, ensure that the air and floor temperature is between 10-30°C and the humidity level does not exceed 85%. Pour the product directly onto the floor in lines. Then spread the product using a squeegee and roll with an epoxy roller in both directions, parallel and perpendicular, to even out the surface.
CRYSTALOPOXY can serve as both a base coat (directly on concrete) and a finish coat. We recommend applying a base coat and a finish coat for a total thickness of approximately 20 mils.
On very porous surfaces, a coat of PRIMOPOXY primer is recommended before using CRYSTALOPOXY. PRIMOPOXY will seal the concrete and has great flexibility to absorb potential surface movements.
A thickness of 4 to 6 mils of PRIMOPOXY is recommended.
