Description:

Elasto-Lock Waterproof Membrane is a white, elastic rubber, moisture-blocking membrane. It is an excellent product for any surface where additional resistance to water, vapor, and moisture is desired. Application can be adjusted to the intended use: a moisture-blocking finish or a moisture-resistant bonding primer. Elasto-Lock applies easily with a roller and adheres to all types of materials: concrete, wood, backer boards, drywall, fiberglass, primed metal, and plastic.

Outdoors, Elasto-Lock Waterproof Membrane prevents the appearance of mold and mildew. It also helps prevent concrete structures from cracking and splitting due to freeze/thaw when applied under the right conditions. Elasto-Lock also serves as a moisture-blocking primer coat on wood, metal, and brick surfaces before applying a finish paint.

Indoors, it is used as a moisture-blocking undercoat in high-humidity areas such as the bathroom, shower, basement floors, or even under tile.

Where to apply Elasto-Lock?

Outdoors: Before staining (opaque) or painting wood surfaces, concrete or brick walls and structures, balconies, metal, and many other surfaces.

Indoors: For concrete basement floors and walls, shower enclosures, bathroom floors, under tile, and drywall exposed to moisture.

Drying time:

Dry to the touch: 30 to 60 min

Between coats: 2 to 4 h

Full cure time: 24 h.

In cold weather (5°C–10°C), allow 48 h to cure before topcoating with a finish product.

Product benefits:

  • Adheres to almost all surfaces
  • Blocks water, moisture, and vapor
  • Stretches up to 800%, preventing cracking
  • Seals joints and small cracks
  • Remains flexible down to -27°C
  • Seals stains
  • Can be used on surfaces submerged in water
  • Prevents mildew and mold growth
  • Increases exterior paint durability
  • Ready to apply (no mixing)
  • 0 VOC and water-based
  • Water clean-up

Pro tips:

  • Apply Elasto-Lock in the morning to avoid direct sunlight and the day’s peak heat.
  • For complete waterproofing, Elasto-Lock must fully cover the surface so that the substrate is no longer visible under the membrane.
  • Freshly poured concrete must cure for at least 30 days before being coated.
  • Tested to ASTM E-96 waterproofing standard: 0.011
  • Tested to ASTM D-638 tensile strength standard: up to 549 psi
  • Hydrostatic resistance tested to ASTM D-751: Procedure B

How to apply

Surface preparation:

Surfaces must be clean, dry, and sound. Clean the surface to remove dust, dirt, efflorescence, oils, and other contaminants. To do so, use a surface prep cleaner such as Krud Kutter.

  • Start by thoroughly mixing Elasto-Lock to ensure product uniformity using a stick or spatula. Do not shake the container, as this can cause air bubbles to form in the product.
  • Dilute Krud Kutter at a 6:1 ratio (6 parts water to 1 part product). To remove very stubborn stains and oil residue, use the cleaner undiluted.
  • Apply the cleaner to the surface with a garden sprayer and scrub with a nylon brush to loosen contaminants. To work faster, you may apply the cleaner with a sprayer, taking care not to damage the surface.
  • Rinse the surface with clean water, then let dry for 24 to 48 h.

Surfaces coated with paint, sealer, or other finish products must be sanded or ground. Wood must also be sanded with 100-grit sandpaper to open its pores. Remove all sanding dust.

Apply Elasto-Lock Waterproof Sealer:

Elasto-Lock applies easily with a 15 mm or 20 mm roller. It can also be applied with an airless sprayer using the following settings: 28:1 compression ratio with a 0.025” tip at 800 psi.

  • Apply a first coat. It is very important that the entire surface is covered to ensure effective moisture protection.
  • Allow to dry for 2 to 4 h before applying the second coat.
  • Apply the second coat, crossing the application angle to ensure full surface coverage.
  • Allow to cure for 24 to 48 h before topcoating with a finish product.

IMPORTANT: Elasto-Lock is not designed to withstand long-term UV exposure. That is why it must be topcoated with a finish product when used outdoors.

The final Elasto-Lock thickness required for optimal performance varies depending on the intended use:

  • Waterproof effect: 30 to 60 mils (1/25”–1/16”)
  • For plywood floors: 30 to 40 mils (1/32”–1/16”)
  • For concrete walls: 30 to 60 mils (1/32”–1/16”)

Restrictions:

  • Elasto-Lock must be applied at temperatures between 10°C and 30°C during application and for the following 24 h.
  • If dilution is required, do not dilute Elasto-Lock with more than 5% water.
  • Do not apply in direct sunlight or if the surface has been heated by the sun.
