Description
Vapor Barrier Primer-Sealer VB-5000
Description:
This interior latex primer-sealer, with a matte finish, is specifically designed to create a vapor barrier film. It is airtight and acts as a barrier against external water vapor when applied to interior walls and ceilings. It is an excellent option when no vapor barrier exists.
Ideal for wall panels and plaster surfaces, this white primer-sealer dries quickly. It offers good adhesion and excellent protection against moisture that may infiltrate interior rooms.
USES
This VB-5000 Vapor Barrier Primer-Sealer will help block excessive moisture from outside the home or building. This will be achieved by significantly reducing excess moisture present in rooms located below ground level.
Basement rooms can then be more comfortable, easier to heat, and more pleasant to be in. The ambient air quality will also be greatly improved.
This also applies to buildings with concrete walls, such as garages and workshops, where it is preferable to reduce indoor humidity to ensure comfort.
Perfect for the following new or previously painted material types: concrete, gypsum drywall, plaster, particle board, wood not prone to tannin bleed.
For ceiling or wall application, but should not be used as a floor vapor barrier.

How to apply
SURFACE PREPARATION
The surface must be clean, dry, and free of dirt, dust, grease, oil, soap, wax, flaking paint, water-soluble materials, or mildew.
Remove loose or flaking paint, then sand the retouched areas to feather the edges and ensure they are level with adjacent surfaces.
Dull glossy surfaces.
Drywall must be free of sanding dust.
Allow new plaster or masonry surfaces to cure before applying the base coat.
To improve adhesion, very smooth cast and precast concrete must be etched or abraded after removing all release agents and curing compounds.
Wood substrates must be thoroughly dry.
Caution: Smooth planed wood must be thoroughly sanded to remove mill glaze, which promotes product penetration and adhesion.
APPLICATION
Do not dilute, as dilution will reduce the permeability rate.
Stir the product well before use.
Apply with a brush, a roller with a nap thickness suitable for the surface (10 mm painted drywall or 13 mm unsealed), or a sprayer. (Airless: Pressure 1,500 to 3,000 psi, Tip 0.013 – 0.017)
Apply before and after filling nail holes, cracks, and other surface imperfections.
Once the primed surface is dry, it can be lightly sanded to remove imperfections. Then, apply the chosen finish.
For the finish coat, we recommend a paint with mold resistance properties and a higher sheen, such as Benjamin Moore’s Regal Select or Aura.
RESTRICTIONS
- Do not apply if ambient and surface temperature is below 10 °C (50 °F) or above 32 °C
- Do not dilute
- Substrates must be thoroughly dry for primer application.
- Do not tint with more than 60 mL of Benjamin MooreMD GennexMD or Colour StoriesMD colorants, or universal colorants per 3.79 L.
