Product description

BIO-SUPRA oil is a natural wood impregnator composed of 100% natural vegetable oils and resins. It protects floors, furniture and all high-traffic interior wood surfaces in a single coat. The Natural color of BIO-SUPRA is recommended for food-contact surfaces such as cutting boards, butcher blocks and kitchen countertops.

Since BIO-SUPRA is plant-based, natural and solvent-free, it emits no VOCs. It provides excellent abrasion resistance and forms no surface film. Thanks to its penetrating power, BIO-SUPRA nourishes the wood and protects it against water and stains. As with all Ligna oils, you can easily make touch-ups at any time. Ligna oils are premium products suitable for both residential and commercial applications.

Interesting Facts

BIO-SUPRA single-coat oil is the most eco-friendly natural oil on the market, composed of 100% solid matter and containing no solvents or branched fatty acids.

Since it emits no volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and contains no solvents, BIO-SUPRA contributes to improving your indoor air quality.

BIO-SUPRA oil has obtained a Certificate from the Chemical Safety Bureau, Health Canada, for food-contact surfaces.

It enhances the wood grain, protects it from premature wear, water and stains. BIO-SUPRA will give your surfaces a beautiful matte finish. Adding a second coat significantly increases the sheen.

With its high coverage and single-coat application, BIO-SUPRA is the most economical product per sq. ft. for floor finishing. (e.g.: $0.20 per sq. ft. for a maple floor)

Ligna BIO-SUPRA single-coat oil is able to offer resistance that compares favorably to that of the older generation of products requiring two or three coats.

Formulated in renowned Italian laboratories and assembled in Quebec, Ligna products offer cutting-edge technology based on over 25 years of experience.

BIO-SUPRA oil can easily be applied manually on all types of softwood, hardwood, domestic wood and gives very good results on exotic woods.

Even though BIO-SUPRA is a single-coat product, it is recommended to apply two coats on surfaces highly exposed to water and humidity, such as kitchen countertops, cutting boards, saunas and bathroom vanities.

Good to Know

Coverage:
BIO-SUPRA oil offers exceptional coverage. A small amount of oil is sufficient to cover a large surface. The amount of oil required varies according to the density of the wood species used.

Low-density woods such as white pine, red pine, gray pine, torrefied wood, douglas fir, larch: approximately 300 to 390 sq. ft./liter

Medium-density woods such as oak, cherry, birch, bamboo: approximately 390 to 480 sq. ft./liter

High-density woods such as maple, jatoba, ipe, and rosewood: 480 to 700 sq. ft./liter

Preparation:
The surface must be clean, dust-free and cleared of all wax or varnish residue. Acclimate the product to room temperature before application. The temperature must be above 20°C.

Mix the product well with a stick before application.

Softwoods:
Since softer woods, such as pine, absorb more than hardwoods, it is therefore advisable to use 150-grit abrasive paper for sanding. Do not dust with a damp cloth, which would contribute to raising the wood grain and would result in uneven application. Use a shop vacuum and dry cloths to remove dust.

Hardwoods:
For hardwood, the surface must be sanded in the direction of the wood grain with 100 to 120-grit paper before application. Use a shop vacuum and dry cloths to remove dust.

Very dense woods:
For high-density woods such as maple and certain exotic woods, it is necessary in these cases to open the wood grain to ensure better oil penetration. After sanding with 100-grit paper, sponge the surface. Wet the wood with a mop (floors) or with a damp cloth. When the surface is completely dry (after approximately one or two hours), sand lightly with 220-grit paper to “break” the raised wood fiber, dust thoroughly and apply the oil.

How to apply

By hand:
1- Apply using an applicator pad, cotton cloth or sheepskin. In thin coats, make sure to spread the oil well and not create excess thickness. Execute circular movements to push the oil into the wood fiber.

2- After 5 to 7 minutes maximum, using a bleached cotton cloth, wipe in the direction of the wood grain while rubbing the oil to make it penetrate and to eliminate excess.

3- Optional: To soften the surface and increase the sheen, polish with a white nylon pad on an electric polisher. This operation can be performed between 2 and 36 hours after the initial application.

With electric polisher:
1- Apply a thin coat using an applicator pad, cotton cloth or sheepskin. Make sure to spread the oil well and not create excess thickness. Execute circular movements to push the oil into the wood fiber

2- After application, using a rotary polisher equipped with a green disc, brush the surface to ensure good oil penetration and ensure finish uniformity.

3- Optional: To polish the surface, after 2 hours and before 36 hours, polish with the polisher equipped with a white disc.

Only one coat is necessary, but it is possible, after 24 hours, to apply a second one, if you wish to increase the color intensity by approximately 20% and the sheen.

For work surfaces and surfaces highly exposed to humidity, such as bathrooms and saunas, a second coat is required. Wait 24 hours before applying the second coat. Wait 10 days before exposing the surface to water.
