How to apply
Surface preparation:
Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of wax, grease, dirt, and dust.
New wood: Sand to obtain a smooth, uniform surface.
- For hardwoods – oak, cherry or maple: (5-inch orbital sander) generally uses 100 or 120 grit.
- For softer woods – pine, hemlock or spruce: (5-inch orbital sander) prefer a 120 or 150 grit.
Varnished wood: Sand with 180-grit sandpaper to ensure good adhesion. If the varnish is peeling, strip it and refinish.
Staining: If desired, use a Passport Elite water-based stain or a non-sealing oil-based stain to stain new or bare wood.
Varnish application:
It is recommended to acclimate and apply the varnish at an ambient temperature between 15 and 30°C, with relative humidity between 30 and 80%.
- 1. Mix well by gently stirring with a stick.
2. Apply 2 or 3 coats evenly in the direction of the wood grain, lightly sanding between each coat. Do not use steel wool. - Once the varnish is dry, lightly sand the surface with 180-grit sandpaper on the floor and 220-grit sandpaper on a piece of furniture. This step helps to remove minor imperfections and achieve a smoother finish.
- Carefully remove sanding dust.
- Allow surfaces to dry completely and wait at least 10 days before cleaning them.
Clean-up:
Clean tools with water.
Storage:
Minimum temperature 5°C, maximum temperature 35°C. Stable through freeze-thaw (if frozen, let thaw completely before use). KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.
