Description
9100 Immersion Pool Epoxy Rust Oleum Industrial
Product description
Description:
The 9100 immersion pool epoxy from Rust-Oleum Industrial is designed for those seeking a technical and high-performance solution to protect their pool, without compromising on durability.
This pool epoxy paint forms a thick, waterproof, and resistant film, capable of withstanding constant exposure to water, chlorine, salt, and chemicals. It is self-sealing, which means it does not require a separate primer, and it offers excellent adhesion on most properly prepared surfaces: raw concrete, fiberglass, marcite, gunite, metal, or old epoxy coatings.
Ideal for new pools or those already painted with epoxy, this pool epoxy resin is applied by roller or brush, and covers up to 400 sq ft per two-gallon kit. Be careful, however: it must not be applied over surfaces painted with other types of pool paint, such as chlorinated rubber, acrylics, or vinyls. If in doubt, testing or stripping may be necessary.
Use it whenever you undertake a pool painting project requiring a robust, durable finish resistant to permanent moisture. Its protective film remains effective even if the color fades over the seasons. A wise choice for homeowners and contractors who want a professional, durable result without surprises.

How to apply
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
You will find here the general application instructions for Rust-Oleum Industrial 9100 Immersion Pool Epoxy. However, we invite you to review the technical data sheet for this product (at the bottom of this page) as well as the article The Advantages of Epoxy Paint for Pools which presents good advice on pool surface preparation work.
APPLICATION CONDITIONS:
New concrete or masonry pool must be allowed to cure for 30 days before applying a coating.
Surfaces must be clean and dry, free of contaminants, algae, and mildew.
Previously painted surfaces must be sound and in good condition.
The pool must be completely drained and dry before applying the product.
Once the pool is drained, the drying time required before application is usually 7 to 10 days, depending on temperature and humidity. To check if concrete, gunite, or plaster pool surfaces are dry, securely tape a 2 ft x 2 ft sheet of clear plastic film to a horizontal surface and a vertical surface in the deepest part of the pool. Check after 24 hours. If condensation water is visible under the plastic, this shows that the surface is not completely dry and is NOT ready for coating application. Allow to dry for some time and perform another condensation test.
MIXING:
The base and activator components have a high pigment content. Mix each component thoroughly to ensure that settled pigments are dispersed before combining the components. Mix the components in a 1:1 ratio by volume in a container large enough to hold the entire mixture. Mix thoroughly for 3 minutes using an electric mixer. Do not mix more product than you plan to use within the indicated pot life of 4 hours.
INDUCTION PERIOD:
Wait 30 minutes before applying the mixture if it is above 21 degrees Celsius, 60 minutes if it is between 15 and 21 degrees Celsius.
APPLICATION EQUIPMENT:
– Good quality bristle brush
– 15mm anti-matting roller
For brush/roller application, pour the mixture into a metal tray without plastic liner then apply efficiently starting with the walls and deeper areas. Gradually work your way up toward the exit. Avoid leaving the mixing bucket in the sun for long periods as heat can accelerate thickening of the catalyzed epoxy not yet applied.
Information corresponding to different types of pneumatic spraying:
- Pressure—0.055-0.070 Tip, 10 to 16 oz/min Flow, 20-60 PSI Pressure
- Siphon—0.055-0.070 Tip, 20-60 PSI Pressure
- HVLP—0.043-0.070, 8 to 10 oz/min Flow, 10 PSI Pressure (at nozzle)
Airless sprayer:
- Fluid pressure 1800 to 3000 PSI, 0.013-0.017 Tip, 100 mesh Filter
THINNING:
No thinning is usually required, except for pneumatic spraying. In this case, use 165402 Immersion thinner.
CLEANUP:
Use 160402 or 165402 thinner (xylene thinner for epoxy).
PERSONAL PROTECTION:
IMPORTANT: Pool epoxy is an industrial coating, all necessary precautions must be taken to avoid contact with your skin and eyes. Wear long clothing, sturdy nitrile gloves, and safety glasses.
Also, since there are powerful solvents that emanate during application, wearing a 3M half-mask with OVN95 charcoal cartridges is a must to be able to work comfortably, without being bothered by the odor and solvents.
DRYING AND CURING TIMES:
- Touch dry: approximately 6-12 hours
- Drying between coats: minimum 16 hours, maximum 72 hours
- Curing before filling the pool: Allow the product to dry for 7 days after application of the second coat before immersing the surface.

FAQ – Frequently asked questions
Q: Can I apply this epoxy on any pool?
No. It is perfect for concrete, fiberglass, metal pools, or those already painted with epoxy. Do not use on a surface painted with rubber-based, vinyl, or acrylic paint.
Q: Do I need to apply a primer first?
No. This epoxy is self-sealing. However, make sure the surface is properly prepared (clean, dry, free of contaminants).
Q: How many square feet can I cover with one kit?
Up to 400 sq ft per 2 gallon kit, depending on surface porosity.
Q: Will the color last?
The color may fade over time, but the coating performance remains intact.
Q: Can I apply by roller or spray gun?
Yes, application by roller or brush is recommended for optimal thickness control. Spray gun can be used with proper adjustments.
Q: How many coats should be applied?
Generally, two coats are recommended for optimal protection, with complete drying between each coat.
