Professional Floor Varnish Initial
Blanchon Initial NF (New Formula) professional floor finish is a single-component water-based polyurethane coating. Initial NF floor finish enhances light-colored floors by preserving their original colors and nuances. Leveraging new technologies, Initial contains only 35 g of volatile organic compounds (VOC) per liter.
Blanchon Initial NF water-based floor finish features a new formula (NF) specifically adapted to the moisture content of Canadian wood. It can be applied to all wood species used in Canada.
Unlike other water-based finishes, it does not mask the wood grain or produce a whitish effect. It preserves the natural color of light woods; its milky appearance fades completely during drying.
Durable and economical, Blanchon Initial NF is ideal for residential floors, furniture, woodwork, and all interior wood surfaces.

Preparation:
The wood must be clean and free of all traces of old varnish, oil, wax, or other finishes. Sand the wood, finishing with 120-grit sandpaper, and carefully remove all dust. Fill cracks using a wood filler binder mixed with fine sanding dust. Stain if necessary, following the recommended instructions for the stain.
For wood that has been stripped, clean the surface thoroughly to ensure all residues are removed. Clean the surface with a mild citrus thinner and sand with 120-grit sandpaper.
Acclimate the product to a room temperature above 12°C. Do not apply if relative humidity exceeds 85%. Use only in well-ventilated areas.
Application:
Apply the finish in the direction of the wood grain using a roller (10 mm). Allow 3 hours of drying time between coats and sand with 180-grit paper. The slightly “milky” appearance of the liquid finish disappears quickly during drying.
Number of coats:
3 coats are required. You may replace one coat of finish with Blanchon Prim’Sealer.
Drying time:
- Touch-dry: 45 minutes
- Between coats: after 3 hours and before 24 hours
- Do not place tarps or rugs on the floor for 10 days
- Use: 24 hours
- Full cure: 10 days
- Place protective pads (felt) under table and chair legs.
- First damp cleaning: 10 days
- Do not allow water or other liquids to stand on your finished floor (ensure flower pots are well insulated).
