How to apply
Precautions
If a previous paint exists and is in good condition, determine the type of pool paint previously used.
Do not apply this epoxy coating over chlorinated rubber-, rubber-, or water-based paint.
The epoxy pool coating can only be applied over another two-component epoxy paint or over a bare surface.
Avoid acid etching a previously painted surface, except for bare concrete surfaces.
This product is not recommended for stainless steel, aluminum, or galvanized metal.
Avoid painting if showers are forecast within 6 hours after application.
Wait at least 60 days after pool construction to ensure the concrete has fully cured.
Whenever possible, do not paint in direct, intense sunlight.
Mix all components of the kit, or a portion, carefully following the ratios.
Preparation
Previously epoxy-painted or fiberglass pools:
Use a very strong degreasing cleaner, for example a citrus-based one, or Krud Kutter degreaser. Scrub by hand (wear gloves) along the waterline where sunscreen oils tend to migrate.
After thorough cleaning, sand with 150–180 grit sandpaper or equivalent and rinse off sanding dust. Let dry for 24 hours.

Epoxy mix preparation
Epoxy Pool Paint has a 1:1 mix ratio. One measure of component “A”, or base component, mixed with one measure of component “B”. Mix all components of the kit to ensure proper curing.
This product is formulated to be applied without thinning, so do not thin.
After a 30-minute induction time (at 25 °C/77 °F), the mix must be applied within 6 to 8 hours at room temperature before the epoxy begins to thicken and harden.
We therefore recommend mixing only the amount of paint you can apply within this time.
Do not scrape the sides or bottom of the final container when using the last of the catalyzed product, as this could introduce partially uncatalyzed material into the application. (the paint then has difficulty curing and setting)

This product can be applied by brush, roller, or sprayer, but roller application is preferred. Follow the recommended spread rate. If applied by sprayer, back-roll.
Avoid applying more paint than recommended (do not apply thick coats) because the finish may then develop the following issues: blistering, chalking, peeling, and premature deterioration.
It is always best to apply two or three thin coats within a 4 to 6 hour dry window, ideally. The maximum dry time without having to lightly sand the paint film before the second coat is 72 hours.
If more than 72 hours at 25 °C (77 °F) elapse after applying the first coat, sand the film to obtain an adequate profile (150–180 grit).
You must wait at least 7 days after applying the last coat before filling the pool. For indoor pools, allow 10 to 14 days.
Important note
If there is rain within 7 days after application:
Remove any water that accumulates at the bottom of the pool with a pump as soon as you can. The paint should hold up as long as the pool had time to dry for at least one full day before the rain arrives. Simply avoid letting water sit longer than necessary.
Important: Avoid covering the pool with a tarp to protect it from rain, otherwise solvents will not be able to evaporate and they will prevent proper curing of the paint.

Q1 – How long does epoxy pool paint last?

A – Yes, INSL-X epoxy pool paint is designed for use on properly prepared concrete, gunite, marcite, fiberglass, and steel pools.
Q3 – The instructions say not to paint in direct sunlight. So how should the work be done?
A- Indeed, it is difficult to avoid painting in direct sunlight on a nice day. We suggest painting the east wall of your pool in the morning while it is shaded, and waiting until late afternoon to paint the west wall. For the other pool walls, do your best to paint at temperatures between 10 °C and 30 °C when the sun is less intense.
Q4- Do I need to wash my pool before painting? Even with this epoxy paint?
A – Yes! It’s necessary! Make sure the pool surface is clean, dry, and free of contaminants for optimal adhesion and paint longevity. For example, you could use Krud Kutter cleaner.
Q5- Once the paint is applied, when can I fill my pool? »
A- Please be patient! You must wait at least 7 days after applying the last coat before filling the pool.
