Description:
Flame Control No. 60-60A paint creates an effective thermal barrier that slows flame spread and delays heat penetration for 25 minutes. It is sometimes impossible to cover urethane insulating surfaces with gypsum boards to comply with established safety regulations. As a highly flammable material, Flame Control No. 60-60A intervenes to ensure compliance in such cases.
Flame Control No. 60-60A intumescent fire-retardant paint is a low-VOC, water-based solution that provides a thermal barrier compliant with CAN/ULC S-101-14 and NFPA 286 standards for spray polyurethane foams.
This paint also meets the requirements of the 2011 edition and section 803.2.1 of the 2006 IBC building code / section 803.1.2 of the 2009 IBC / NFPA 101, and the 2009 Fire Safety Code, section 10.2.3.7.2, as well as the 2009 IRC 316.6.

Uses:
A solution for certain residential basements where walls or ceilings are insulated with spray urethane foam and the installation of solid fire-resistant material is not possible. Recommended for schools, colleges, nursing homes, childcare centers, hospitals, prisons, apartments, hotels, factories, warehouses, retail stores, restaurants, public services, and other establishments requiring a thermal barrier rating on spray polyurethane foam surfaces.
How to apply
Surface preparation:
The foam must be firm, dry, and free of dust, dirt, grease, oil, wax, and mold. Mold must be removed by scrubbing with a 25% bleach solution. TSP or common powdered laundry detergent like Tide can be added to the solution to aid removal. This solution and all residues must be thoroughly rinsed from the surface. The surface must be perfectly dry before applying the fire retardant.
Ensure the foam surface is free of holes, stable, and not crumbling or deteriorating. Repair as needed before applying the fire-retardant paint.
Application
Brush and roller application are possible, but due to the irregular surface, spraying is preferred.
60-60A must be thoroughly mixed mechanically before application.
Must cover 80 sq ft/gal after all coats.
Generally, more than one coat is necessary to avoid runs and puddles.
Ideal Paint Gun Specifications:
(For all jobs, small or large)
Airless Spray: PSI: 3300 / 227, GPM: 1.35 (PSI 3,000, GPM 0.95 minimum)
Filter: 30 mesh. (It is recommended to remove the filter from the gun and the machine)
For best results, use a 3/8 in diameter hose for the airless spray line for the first 50 ft from the pump and a 1/4 in x 6 ft flexible hose.
Pump: (Graco) Mark 4 or 5 or equivalent
Nozzle: 517 – 533 or equivalent
Precautions:
We recommend mechanical mixing with a high-speed drill and a paddle suitable for the container size. The contents must be mixed from bottom to top, ensuring to scrape the edges with a paint stick until a creamy, lump-free consistency is achieved.
Failure to do so would compromise the protective capabilities of 60-60A.
- Apply and store at temperatures between 10 °C and 30 °C.
- Slight dilution (10% max. water) will not damage the product.
- Care must be taken to ensure that the correct amount of 60-60A is always applied, even if diluted.
- Adequate ventilation must be provided during and after application until the coating is dry.
- Avoid breathing vapors and close the container after use.
- High humidity may require a longer curing time.
- Use a fan if ambient humidity is above 65% to allow the fire retardant to cure on the surface.
